The EdgeGuard Tint Shop Sales Approach

for Used Car Owners

Selling to consumers who bring used cars into your Tint Shop will tie in to our Educate, Protect, Inspect, Repair, Replace (EPIR2) program:

Following EPIR2, you would "Inspect" the windshield of every car brought into your shop for stars, bull's-eyes, floater cracks, and edge cracks.  This takes little to no extra time and provides an extra service to your customers.

If a star, bull's-eye, floater crack, edge crack, or evidence of an improper installation is found, the customer can be notified and advised on the options available to them. Arrangements can then be made to address the problem.

The EPIR2 program educates the consumer on the importance of retaining and maintaining their factory-installed windshield, and when necessary, having it replaced by a conscientious, National Glass Association Certified technician. More importantly, it leads them to understand that the additional cost to install EdgeGuard is a small price to pay to assure their own and their passengers' safety. It's not just the cost of the windshield, or deductible on their insurance policy that's important, it's safety!

"Part of our overall service to our customers is to inspect their vehicles' windshield. This is because today's windshields play a critical role in protecting you and your passengers in the event of an accident. In fact, your windshield can be as important to your safety as your seat belts, air bags, tire pressure, and anti-lock brakes!

Today's windshields do far more than protect you and your passengers from the wind, rain and road debris. As a critical component of your vehicle's safety system, your windshield also plays a significant role in protecting you in the event of an accident.

First, it helps keep passengers inside the vehicle vs. being ejected. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration estimates that each year, approximately 17,400 people are ejected through the windows of vehicles, resulting in approximately 7,300 deaths and 7,800 serious injuries. Those who are ejected from vehicles are 35 times more likely to be killed vs. those that remain in the vehicle.

Even if you and your passengers always wear a seatbelt, between 18 and 20 percent of your vehicle's overall structural integrity and up to 60% of its structural strength required during a rollover is dependent on an intact, properly installed windshield.

In the event of a rollover, if your windshield gives way, your roof will most likely cave in Ð causing serious head and neck injury to you and your passengers. In addition, many passenger-side airbags depend on the windshield as a backstop and inflate with such force that they can easily push an improperly installed windshield right off the vehicle. When this occurs, the airbag simply deploys onto the hood of the vehicle instead of cushioning the passenger as they head toward the dashboard.

There's another significant issue to consider. When you eventually get a cracked windshield, ignoring your deductible for a minute, it can cost you between $175 and $700 to replace. And insurance companies are beginning to increase premiums based on the frequency to windshield replacements!

But that's not the bad news Ð some industry experts estimate that as many as 80% of all windshield replacements are done incorrectly placing those that ride in those vehicles at risk for serious injuries. Given this to be the case, the longer you can keep your original windshield, the better.

We've just begun to carry a new, patented product that guarantees you won't have to replace your windshield because of an edge crack for 3 years. It been installed on over 20,000 vehicles and uses General Electric's LEXAN¨ (link to PDF file) material Ð the same material used in bulletproof glass. It's installed around the perimeter of your windshield Ð the place where >80% of all windshield cracks are created. Let me show you what it looks like on my car.

It's only $_____ and we can install it while we're installing your tint film."
